It became clear during Thursday evening’s match with Getafe that Martin Jol’s time as manager, after months of speculation, had come to an end. Rumours began at half time and before the match had ended it had been confirmed.

The club have now confirmed that Jol was asked to hand in his resignation sometime Thursday morning with the agreement that he would see out the evening’s match. We will probably never know whether the players were aware of this before the match but popular rumour seems to suggest they only became aware following a textg message received by unused substitute Darren Bent during the first half.

Jol said his goodbye’s following the match before heading to the boardroom. What happened in there is purely tabloid speculation but we now face a future without Martin Jol.

Also leaving with Martin are Assistant Manager and Defensive Coach Chris Hughton, and Goalkeeping Coach Hans Segers. Segers joined Spurs in 1998 and made two appearances for the club due to player injuries.

Hughton on the other hand has been involved with Spurs for 30 years but his time is now up as the club’s defensive frailties are continually exposed in spite of his coaching work.

Bookies have stopped taking bets on Juande Ramos becoming the next Spurs manager after he handed in his resignation to the Sevilla board along with his fitness coach Marcos Alvarez. Ramos personal website says “for my family and my profession it is impossible not to leave for London.” which all but confirms his appointment.

Ramos is expected to be announced before Sunday’s match against Blackburn Rovers, although Clive Allen will take control of that game with Ramos expected to take the reigns for the Carling Cup game against Blackpool on Wednesday.
